About Doggies Helping Veterans

Doggies Helping Veterans is a group of volunteers (and their dogs), led by Emmie the Superdog and her fiancé Snick the Dog, raising money to support Active Heroes in their effort to build and begin operating the Active Heroes Retreat. Doggies Helping Veterans hopes to raise $100,000 of the total $1,000,000 needed for Phase One. The money raised will be used specifically for a dog park and trails and, eventually, to start a pet therapy program.

Emmie is the spokesdog for Active Heroes, and she walked all the way across the United States and back with her humans, Troy and Mareike, to raise money for military families. Snickers is a registered therapy dog with Pet Partners International (formerly Delta Society). He visits kids in schools, patients in hospitals and people in nursing homes. Snick and his mom helped Troy and Mareike raise money for military families a couple summers ago by throwing a birthday pawty in NYC for Emmie.

Snickers and Emmie are working together now to raise awareness and money for the Active Heroes Retreat, by sending stuffed toy versions of themselves on a cross-country adventure. We hope that a lot of doggies and their people will join our team to raise $100,000. Click here to learn how you can help.

Active Heroes Retreat

donateDeveloped, designed and built by veterans and their families to help veterans and their families, the Active Heroes Retreat will help with post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide prevention by teaching veterans and their families to heal through physical therapy activities and mental mentoring. The development of the retreat has begun with a $250,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation. Phase One will cost $1,000,000 to build.
